Text and Typography
Typography refers to the arrangement, style, appearance, and printing of text on a page, and each choice can affect readers in distinct ways. When most writers think about typography (if they think about it at all) they think almost exclusively about font. Font is indeed an important element of typography since a font consists of the style and size of the letters, numbers and symbols you will use in your document. In many cases, the font will be the most obvious typographical element in a document. However, typography consists of more; it also encompasses the choices you might make concerning the emphasis, case, spacing, and justification of the text.
Choosing one or more fonts for your document is one of the most important design choices you can make. You should consider the following:
- font style
- serif or sans serif font
- font size
- using fonts to emphasize important information
